SUMMARY

The Pixar RenderMan team held a texturing and lighting competition called the "Rustic Cabin" Art Challenge.

Pixar provided artists a 3D modeled and untextured scene, and our objective was to tell a story through textures and lighting.

I used the Pixar film UP as inspiration to tie into the Rustic Cabin project. My story revolved around the idea that the Rustic Cabin belonged to Russell's grandmother, who was very proud of her little scout.

We were allowed to add 3D models of our own if it helped support the story, so I built a variety of small props. Each new 3D modeled prop was used to strengthen the story and related to Russell and grandmother.

To sell the story, even more, I made sure to do comprehensive research on advertisements from the 1950s and 1960s. I used that knowledge to create a collection of unique graphics for items throughout the scene that Russell's grandmother gathered over the years.

The Disney fan in me; also included several easter egg items throughout the piece, which gave solid nods to Pixar and Disney works.

I was honored to be one of the few artists that Pixar featured on their Twitter page.
